How to Get from Suvarnabhumi to Downtown Bangkok

How to Get from Suvarnabhumi to Downtown Bangkok

If you’re wondering How to get from Suvarnabhumi to downtown Bangkok, you’ve landed in the right place. Oh yes. Give me more, Angie, as always.

How to Get from Suvarnabhumi to Downtown Bangkok

So, how do you get from Bangkok Airport to the city center? In this post I’m talking specifically about Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is the one I used both when arriving in and leaving Thailand.

Don’t worry — I’m not going to talk about the city, or the food. I’m just here to tell you how to get from the airport to downtown Bangkok.

The airport is located about 35 km from the city center. There are several transportation options you can choose from, and the main difference between them is… money, of course.

Public Transport – From Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok

You can do some weird combinations depending on the area you need to reach, but if you ask me, the best thing you can do — aka what I did — is to take the S1 bus. It’s a regular city bus that runs roughly every half hour and has 8 stops within Bangkok, with the final one being Khaosan Road. You’ll find the stop by going one floor down from the arrivals area and heading to platform 7.

Cómo ir de Suvarnabhumi al centro de Bangkok

Pros:

  • Price: it costs only 60 THB (around €1.60)
  • Comfort: it has air conditioning and it’s never full — sit wherever you like, queen
  • Speed: it basically takes the same amount of time as a taxi or private transfer since it doesn’t make intermediate stops until reaching Bangkok

Cons:

  • You can only pay in cash, which means you’ll have to exchange some money at the airport — and we all know how that usually goes. I changed a 10 USD bill and it was more than enough.

Private Transfer

Like in every airport in the world, you can always pre-book a private shuttle. You can even book it before you land.

Pros:

  • You can start your journey into the city as soon as you arrive, without waiting
  • They drop you off right at your accommodation’s doorstep

Cons:

  • It’s the most expensive option, and since you have plenty of alternatives, maybe that extra money could go towards some delicious food 🙂

Taxi or Apps like Grab or Bolt – Getting from the Airport to Bangkok

Both Grab and Bolt work perfectly in Thailand, and you can pay either in cash (they’ll even give you a little discount) or with the card linked to your account. For regular taxis, just follow the airport signs leading you to the taxi area, located on the lower floor.

Pros:

  • Cheaper than a private shuttle
  • The apps let you choose a motorbike, which is way cheaper than a car — only recommended if you’re traveling with backpacks and nothing too huge. I do not recommend doing circus tricks on a motorbike in Thai traffic.

Cons:

  • You’ll need to walk a bit outside the airport to catch ride-share options
  • It will be cheaper than a private transfer, but definitely more expensive than the public bus

And that’s it, my traveling friend! Those were all my tips on How to get from Suvarnabhumi to downtown Bangkok. Hope it helps — and wishing you the best adventure.

Travel hug,
Angie
